What does the role of a design office technician involve?
The design office technician compiles and provides the technical data required for design, costing and innovation.
Subsequently, they oversee the production of the first parts in collaboration with the production team.

What are the most significant aspects of the role?
Understanding and analysing the client’s needs and expectations in order to design the most appropriate
technical solution; searching for components in the internal database or on the market, if necessary;
producing 2D electrical schematics (CAD) (See Electrical) and cabinet or enclosure layout diagrams (CAD) (AutoCAD)
Creating and coding components in the ERP system and submitting requests for quotations to the procurement department in conjunction with the technical component lead (validation, coding rules)
Draw wiring diagrams using the in-house Photon
software. Design 3D parts (moulds, CP, technical product solutions)

What technical skills are required?
The design engineer must ensure the project is costed and feasible, and that the technical data in the ERP system is accurate.
Therefore, the ability to read drawings, use IT tools, and be proficient in Microsoft Office and design software—such as AutoCAD, SEE Electrical and SolidWorks—is obviously a top priority.

What professional skills does the design office technician need?
As they work with the Production department to produce the first parts and liaise with the client’s design office technician, it is important that they demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt.
They must also have knowledge of components relevant to clients’ markets, standards, etc.
